AWESOME! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm sure we'll be using this on other shows for years to come.
In Faith (set at the very end of the Goryeo dynasty) we're running into a rank called 호군 (hogun) or something like that.
  • Some guys are promoted to this rank from 장군 (changgun), so it must be higher, and is probably just one level higher.
  • The main character is promoted to senior rank 4 at the same time that he becomes one of these.
I suspect that rank 4 was probably split into junior (changgun) & senior (hogun) at some point late in the Goryeo era, but I haven't done much research on it.
Hi there...
In Faith, there are two additional posts ie hogun and daehogun (ep24 main character is called this). I found this link which lists early Joseon military ranks. It includes Hogun as a Level 4 senior rank, and Daehogun which is level 3 junior rank. Maybe there are similarities between late Goryeo and early Joseon?

I also found it interesting that they have something called the tactical command ranks which include:
Daejang (Army General) - commands 10,000 - 30,000 men
BuJang (Regiment Commander) - commands 500 - 1500 men.

Both these terms are used in Faith. :)
