Hyun rose to fame after starring in the 2005 Korean television series My Name is Kim Sam Soon with Kim Sun-ah. It was a success with an average viewership of over 37% and 50.5% tuned in for the finale. He won the Top Excellence award at the 2005 MBC Drama Awards.

From November 2009 to March 2010 Hyun filmed with Tang Wei in Late Autumn (2010). It is a remake of a 1966 Korean film with the same name, directed by Kim Tae-Yong. He also starred in the Korean television drama, Secret Garden, with Ha Ji-won. In February 2011 his film, Come Rain Come Shine, was released. It premiered In Competition at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.

On March 7th, 2011, he enlisted with the marines training camp for his compulsory 21 months of military service;
his discharge date has been set for December 6th, 2012.

has anyone watched I'm Happy? I got it right after the Secret Garden craze. but now i'm contemplating on watching it because it seems..sad?..despite the title lol.

but if there's anyone who hasn't watched My Name is Kim Sam Soon, go now~ its one of my favorite dramas ever!!

I loved him in Kim Sam Soon & he was awesome in Secret Garden. It was a great drama for him to star in before he went to the marines. I'm awaiting for his comeback and to looking forward to his next project.

I think he was at his best in Kim Sam Soon... I really liked his character (most of the time, anyway). Wasn't too keen on him in Secret Garden or Friend, our legend. However, despite a poor script, he was HAWTest looking in Snow Queen... [I love him best rough looking... ahhhhh.... so gorgeous]

My favorite actor is Kang Ji Hwan though!

He's a rare find. I loved him in his first Drama and I still love him in his last. I can't wait 'till he comes back and makes more beautiful projects come to live with his acting skills.

I'm looking forward to seeing his new movie that's gonna be playing in cinema's in the US.
