STEP BY STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO ADD YOUR OWN SUBTITLE TO THE CTS PROJECT
How time flies and comes September 15, DarkSmurfSub will be 10 months old. From a personal blog, DSS has gone a long way. The CTS Editor is now out of the beta mode and is on its V.3. Along with the sites growth, Darksmurf had brought along so many enhancements to the site. True to its motto, FAST RELEASES OF FANS BY FANS, Darksmurf introduced two new features. First, fans can now sub their favorite dramas by uploading them to the CTS Project. The second feature is that the subs can now be translated to various popular languages.
Shown here is the step by step guide on how to add your own drama subtitle to the CTS Project.
Step 1 - Make sure you have a HANrel synced .srt Chinese Soft-sub.
(If your source file is .ass file or if it is not HanRel synced, scroll down and check the detailed guide on how to to convert .ass file to .srt file as well as to HanRel synced your file. After conversion you can now start with Step 1 here.)

Step 2 - Convert the .srt ASCII Garbage to UTF-8 encoding
You have to do this step if gibberish characters appears when you open the file on Notepad.

After you click OK and the characters are now in the proper Chinese Encoded format, Copy and Paste them to a blank Notepad and Save As a new .srt file as shown below.

Presto! You now have a new .srt file in the proper Chinese Encoded Format ready for upload to the CTS Project. Continue with the simple steps guided by the screenshots below:
Step 3: Upload the .srt into CTS Releases under Miscellaneous Releases
Click on this link: http://www.darksmurf...com/cts-public/
You will then see this page, fill up all the necessary entries

After clicking “Create a Project”, this webpage will appear:

Open on Notepad the .srt file you want to upload to the CTS Project, Cut and Paste to the area shown above, see the results below:

The following screens then appear as the it goes through the 4 steps of Saving, Translating, Creating CTS Releases, Updating Global Database Translation and subs will be created. Do not click on anything while this is going on.

After Step 4, the download page will now open and you will see the sub successfully uploaded and ready to work on.

The subs can be found in the miscellaneous section:-

Good Job! You have now successfully uploaded the subtitle of your favourite drama in which you and the rest of the DSS Community can work on.
But... what if I don’t have a .srt Chinese Subtitle? Or, what if my sub isn’t synced to HanRel? Eotteoke? What should I do?
You need not worry... below is the detailed guide on how to convert your .ass sub file to .srt sub file as well as how you will sync the sub to HanRel. Isn’t that very helpful? Just browse and follow these simple and easy steps.
How to convert .ass subtitle file to .srt subtitle file?
(Clean up and conversion of .ass to .srt [UTF-8 encoding])
Step 1 - You need to install Aegisub in your computer.
Aegisub is available in this site/link: http://www.aegisub.org/
If installed properly, once opened, it will look like this.

Step 2 – Open the .ass file you need to be converted to .srt file on Aegisub.
(Once opened, delete the lyrics lines usually found at the end marked by name tags lyrics etc. unless the drama is a musical like Heartstrings.)

Step 3 – Click on File and Export Subtitle
(Make sure that the Text encoding is set to UTF-8)

Step 4 – Once exported, you will now be able to save the file to .srt/SubRip file.

Well done! You have now successfully converted the .ass file to .srt/SubRip file. Take note that with .ass files you need to do some clean up as there are usually lyrics and comments added at the end of the file.
How to sync your file to HanRel version?
Step 1 – Open the non-HanRel Chinese Soft-subs .srt file on Aegisub.

Step 2 – On the Menu Toolbar, click Video. A drop-down menu will appear to which you will click Open Video select the raw video to sync to. See the screenshots below.

Step 3 - On the Menu Toolbar, Click Audio. A drop-down menu will appear to which you will click Open Audio from Video. See the screenshots below.

Step 4 - Play the video until the first person speaks. This will be your cue to get the time difference between the HanRel video's audio and the non-HanRel sub.

Step 5 - Adjust Timing of the soft-sub to sync with the HanRel video.

Step 6 - You may now save the synced subtitle. It is best to save the subs by exporting and saving it to .srt HanRel version by following Steps 3 to 4 on HOW TO CONVERT .ASS FILE TO .SRT FILE. (scroll up).
Good Job! You have now synced your non-HanRel .srt soft-sub to HanRel .srt soft-sub.
We hope that you will now be able to upload the Chinese Subtitle of your favorite drama to the CTS Project. If you have any questions, just post them below. I will be your willing guide in this newest enhancement on DSS. Thank you.
