I was a newbie once and I know how time consuming it is to learn everything about subbing and to know your way around this growing site, so to help the newcomers, guests, and even the old dungeonites (who still get lost sometimes), I created this topic as a guide.
CTS 101 - TERMINOLOGIES
Cbox - Chatbox. It is located in the Modules/Dungeon - at the right side. It is the mode communication of those working in the Dungeon. It is color coded and each usergroup has its own color.
CTS - Community Translated Subtitles. DSS is one big community and the subtitles created by fans for fans is what we refer to as CTS.
CTS TEAM - the group of people working to give you the subtitles of your favorite dramas. Composed of the groups below:
- CTS Administrator
- CTS Team Leaders
- CTS Enforcers
- CTS Ultimate
- CTS Supreme
- CTS Elite
- CTS QC Trustee
- CTS Editor
- CTS Translator ( C)
- CTS Translator (K)
- CTS Translator (Other)
- CTS Non English Team
- CTS Casual
DSS - DarksmurfSub, the SITE.
Dungeonites - collective term we use to call those who are working in the Dungeon. There are different dungeonites: the zombies, vampires, and the hybrid. You will get to know them once you stay there
Editors - CTS members who edit the translated English subs, taking note of the proper use of words/terms and grammar.
General Comment Box - the color Green box on top of each episode in the Modules. This is where the guidelines for a particular drama are usually written/posted, so ALWAYS read this before working.
Line Counts - this will show the number of lines you worked on: the lines you translated, edited, QCed, and Timed.
Line Comment - the comment/s after a line, this could be a suggestion, correction, or question. Line comments are not deleted because they could serve as guide to the translators and editors.
Modules - the program/environment coded by DarkSmurf, also known as THE DUNGEON. It is the place where we work. Currently, there are Two (2) Major Modules and both modules have One (1) common chatroom, the Cbox.
- Elite Module - can only be accessed by the selected few. This module has additional features not available in the Regular Module.
- Regular Module - this module has 2 types with different features :
- Translator Module - the workplace of the Translators
- Editor Module - the workplace of the Editors
Non-English Editor - edits the translated non-English subs, noting the proper use of words and grammar.
Non-English Translator - translates the English subs to other Languages (Spanish, Thai etc)
QC Lock - Locking a line after it has been translated, properly edited, and checked with the video. QC Lock is a feature only available to some selected CTS Members.
Transcribers - they are the CTS Members who rip the hard-subs from the video to make soft-subs. They manually type the Chinese words on the video to the Module. The Chinese words would them be translated to English or other languages by the CTS Team.
Translators - members of the CTS Team who translate the dramas TO English. Translators can be:
- C-Translator - translates the Chinese soft subs to English
- K-Translator - translates directly from the Korean language (as heard on the video) to English
- Translator (Other) - translate other languages (Japanese etc) to English
