A Gentleman's Dignity Episode 8 Recaps

INTRO
June 1993
A blind date has been setup between groups of college students. Four boys and three girls; the four boys are doing their best to turn their dates off. After Do Jin introduced himself, a pretty girl named Eun Hui interrupted the group, apologizing that she’s late. All the boys started to act cool because they know that only one “bastard” can survive.

The birthday party for Yun continues, while waiting for Do Jin to arrive the men recalled the times they spent with Eun Hui and they try to beset each other with stories that are likely made up. The two ladies Jeong Rok invited inquired who Eun Hui is. Yun, Jeong Rok and Tae San all claimed that Eun Hui is their first love.
Earlier, Do Jin dropped by I Su’s place to give her a new laptop as replacement to the one he broke. As I Su start up the machine she soon finds out that her new screensaver is herself in a bikini printed on Do Jin’s bedspread. Do Jin arriving at the party venue phones I Su first—probably to find out what her reaction was on the screensaver. I Su threw the phone and it lands under the bed. Do Jin then drops the call and goes inside the bar. Meari then asked if they can sing “Happy Birthday” now that Do Jin has arrived. It was followed by her requesting Yun to make a wish and this did not sit well with Tae San. Meari then accuses Tae San that he is acting up because she likes Yun. Tae San got very angry with Meari’s childish whim. He then stood up and drags Meari out of the room. As they were about to exit the room, Yun stops Tae San by asking him to let go of Meari and tells him that if has something to say to say it to him instead.
The party is abruptly ended—Do Jin has been tasked to take Meari home. Ready to take her home Meari assures Do Jin that she will be fine and there’s no need to bring her home. Do Jin should instead take care of “oppa”. Do Jin asked Meari which “oppa” she’s referring to.
Meari: Yun oppa. What if Tae San oppa beats him…
Tae San and Yun shares a table—they have moved to the (bar’s) lounge. Tae San asked Yun for a cigarette and Yun reminds Tae San that they both quit together. Tae San confessed that even he and Se Ra had already broken up ten times, he never thought of smoking not until tonight. Yun tells Tae San that he has not greeted him happy birthday.
Do Jin is with Tae San and they headed to Jeong Rok’s bar. On their way Do Jin is told by Tae San that Meari resembles their mother very much. Do Jin tells Tae San to give it sometime, he also reminded Tae San to trust Yun since Yun is the most smartest and warmest. Do Jin then added that Yun is also the one that Tae San trusts the most.
While trying to retrieve the phone that she threw, I Su also took out the gloves hidden underneath her bed. She puts it on and after giving some thought she takes it off. I Su then heads out meeting Se Ra at the door. They both have been avoiding each other. Tonight, they felt they need to tidy things between them. Se Ra apologizes to I Su. Se Ra also tells I Su that she likes Tae San a lot. I Su understood and asked Se Ra to promise her one thing—that Tae San must not know what happened between them. I Su would like to move out however Se Ra does not have money to give I Su as (return) deposit. Se Ra will have to win the tournament to earn back I Su’s money. After their talk, I Su goes outside to throw the gloves she initially bought for Tae San.
After arriving at Jeong Rok’s bar, Jeong Rok himself along with Do Jin watched Yun and Tae San closely. Do Jin asks Jeong Rok what he thinks the two are talking about. Jeong Rok responded that he does not know. Do Jin questioned why he looks very worried. Jeong Rok tells Do Jin that he is worried that Yun and Tae San might break anything. Do Jin then asks Jeong Rok who will he side with if both ends up fighting. Jeong Rok bluntly responded that he is on Yun side, since Yun is the only one who knows the details of Min Suk’s will. Jeong Rok returned the question to Do Jin. Do Jin assures Jeong Rok that he’s also taking his side.
Tae San: I hate to say this but I trust you.
Yun: Don’t worry. What you’re thinking of… it won’t happen. I’ve been trying hard to prevent it.
Suddenly, Jeong Rok remembers Meari—Do Jin tells him that he has sent Meari off and he need not to worry. Do Jin added that he knows who Meari is with and this person does not even answer his call. Do Jin was right, Meari is with I Su. Both have gone to the sauna to forget (for a bit) their love troubles, they even decided to stay overnight. I Su tells Meari that she’s going to sleep so Meari needs to keep an eye for her, taking this opportunity, Meari uses I Su’s phone to send a text. Do Jin receives a text from I Su, but it turns out to be from Meari. He then informed Jeong Rok where Meari and I Su are. Do Jin and Jeong Rok both being gentlemen decide to go to the sauna.
I Su and Meari goes outside to wait for their ride, just as I Su was about to ask Meari who will pick them up, Do Jin’s car comes up the drive way. As soon as the men approached them, they began to wonder whose place they can crash for the evening. Jeong Rok offers their place for Meari and Do Jin offers his to I Su. Meari then responded that for today, she and I Su are a set. They then went to the Hwa Dam architecture private hotel suite.
Tae San went home hoping to find Meari but she’s nowhere to be found. Do Jin sends Tae San a text message informing him where Meari is. He also sent the same message to Yun.
As they drive up to the parking lot, Meari tells Do Jin to hurry for her bladder is about to burst. Do Jin leaves the car and I Su to Jeong Rok’s care. Jeong and I Su formally introduce themselves to each other after which Jeong Rok escorts I Su to the suite. Min Suk who spent the evening with a girlfriend at the very same hotel sees Jeong Rok and I Su together. She follows them. I Su tells Jeong Rok that he is going the wrong way. Jeong Rok asks I Su if she’s been here for sometime. I Su quickly denied whatever Jeong Rok is trying to conclude. Just as they were about to settle down in the suite, Min Suk rang the door bell and I Su opens it. Min Suk let her suspicion get ahead of her and began speaking to I Su harshly and rudely. Jeong Rok comes back to the living room and asks Min Suk what she’s doing here. She was at point of accusing Jeong Rok and I Su of cheating, when Do Jin and Meari showed up. Jeong Rok then tells Min Suk that Meari crashed Yun’s party earlier, so for tonight they are crashing the firm’s suite.
Min Suk left also leaving Jeong Rok behind. Meari tells everyone that she’s calling it an early night—on the bed, Meari looks at Yun’s photo helplessly. Yun on the other hand goes shopping and sees a dinner plate set on display, they reminded him of last year’s Christmas Eve (when he stopped the plates from falling on Meari when she tried to pulling them out from the cupboard).
Jeong Rok, I Su and Do Jin are having some cheese and wine. I Su who was singing got interrupted by Jeong Rok to tell that Do Jin designed the wine label. As they discuss if Do Jin did a good job, Jeong Rok interrupts that he going to sleep as well. I Su responded that she’s only finishing a glass. Do Jin then whined asking who he will drink with. Jeong Rok asks both if they are dating and same as earlier I Su denied having such a relationship with Do Jin. I Su then tries to go to bed but Do Jin held her hand.
Do Jin: Did you find a younger man… Since, you’re experience with one-sided love will you give me some advice on what to do with mine?
I Su: Are you angry?
Do Jin: Because you’re not liking me.
Do Jin gently brushed his fingers on I Su’s cheek. I Su did not avoid it. He continues to caress her cheek and leans closer.
Do Jin: Let me lead you.
Just as they were about to kiss, Jeong Rok comes out of the room, I Su who doesn’t want to be caught in an embarrassing situation pretended to have fallen asleep on the floor. Do Jin then carries I Su to his room, after they got inside I Su tells Do Jin to get her back out and Do Jin teasingly tells her he won’t because he can’t lose face in front of Jeong Rok. I Su dishevels her hair and crumples her clothes to make it look like she just woke up—she goes out and went into the room Meari is sleeping in.
Morning
Do Jin came home and finds Yun preparing breakfast, he offers Do Jin some soup and he took a spoonful. Do Jin initially had no reaction now is starring at Yun with disbelief and asks if they can have bread instead. Yun took the cue from Do Jin tries the soup and agree that they should just have bread.
Before heading to office Do Jin drops by Jeong Rok’s café and asked for his help to get Yun to date. Do Jin tells Jeong Rok that Yun bought dishes and is cooking which can only mean one thing—the man is frustrated. Jeong Rok teases Meari who is listening to the conversation. The group was interacting happily with each other, unknown to them that Tae San is watching outside.
While in school, I Su is approached by a co-teacher who inquired why she has not responded to her text, it prompted I Su to check her phone. There was a text message from Do Jin that was sent last night (he was texting while I Su was “begging” him to take her to the other room where Meari’s sleeping in). Do Jin texted how pretty I Su is and he wants her to stay and not wanting to carry her out.
Back at the architecture firm, Tae San presents Do Jin with a complaint and along with three staff members they decide to fight back. Do Jin asks Team Leader Choi and his assistants to look for illegal dealings and failed requirements committed by the client with respect to the buildings he already own. It didn’t take long to find many. Do Jin and Tae San met with the pig headed client. Tae San at the beginning was cussing on and off—here and there. Do Jin then brings to open violation documents committed by the client, he tells the stubborn man that he can continue suspending their building license with his complain to the business bureau, in the meantime the firm will submit all the violations to the district office. The client’s hands became tied as he had far more violations with grave punishments and his only option is to withdraw his complain. Tae San and Do Jin leaves the premise and extended an invitation to client that they should go and have dinner sometime. Both then said they’re too busy to make time for it anyways.
Later that afternoon…
When classes were over I Su receives a call from Se Ra’s “sunbae” (the guy Se Ra arranged for I Su to go with on a blind date), Se Ra is at the hospital being admitted for severe stomach cramps caused by stress and exhaustion. After she got to see Se Ra, I Su phones Tae San to let him know. Tae San thanked I Su for letting him know. However he doesn’t want to see Se Ra and asks I Su to take care of Se Ra for him. I Su tried to cover up what Tae San was saying but Se Ra heard everything (I Su was phoning Tae San near to the bed) cries.
Meari finished making Yun’s bag and hides it when Tae San knocked on her door. Tae San wants to talk to her and Meari tells him that if it’s about Yun she is not going to listen. Tae San respond to Meari that he wants to talk about himself.
Tae San: When you left to study overseas two years ago, I missed you so much. Please don’t do that again.
With such words said, Tae San leaves the room and Meari cries.
Dinner
Min Suk is with her friends for a gathering and she is the only one without a husband. A couple of the women addressed Min Suk as if she got divorced and Min Suk assures them that they’ll be the first to know if she gets divorced. Min Suk claimed that Jeong Rok is busy and if he ever comes he’ll be bored.
Yun is practicing throws (for pitching) and is quite frustrated that none of the balls hit the target. Tae San arrives to take the spot of a catcher. He then does weird hand signals and greets Yun a belated happy birthday. Both wrapped up baseball practice and went to drinks.
Yun and Tae San find Do Jin already drinking. Jeong Rok greeted his friends and receives a text from Min Suk asking him to come to the gathering right away. Jeong Rok leaves the group to go to Min Suk and he arrives in style. Min Suk’s friends were greatly impressed; they even thought Jeong Rok is a model.
The next day Se Ra who just recovered from a hospital scare heads to her tournament clothes fitting. While trying out some clothes, Se Ra receives an encouragement (good luck) text from Meari. After her fitting Se Ra heads home to pack, she finds the apology ball that Tae San draw a face on. I Su who is watching thoughtfully encourage Se Ra that she’s cheering for her.
I Su calls Meari asking to meet this weekend. Meari tells her that she cannot talk right now—she’s in Yun’s office to deliver a present. Yun quickly addressed Meari by telling her to take the present back. Attorney Kang interrupts the two; she comes in holding a packed lunch. She tells Yun that Lee Mi Kyung left him (homemade) lunch for his birthday while he was still in court. Meari was got irritated on how Yun can accept a homemade lunch from Lee Mi Kyung and not accept her present. Yun tells Meari that Lee Min Kyung is his mother-in-law.
Weekend came too soon, I Su is waiting for Meari at the café and she recalls Se Ra crying at the hospital. Meari arrives and after she sat down, I Su asked if she bought the thing she asked for. Meari then pulls out Tae San’s high school yearbook. I Su opened the book and searched for a page—she then puts (taped) back Tae San’s picture. She sighed wishing that with this everything to go back to their original place.
Meari: I’m on your side.
I Su: I’m on Se Ra’s side.
Meari: How come you never confessed to “oppa” even you had several chances?
I Su: I kept everything because the person I like could become unhappy if I make my feelings known. Just consider it a negative side effect of a one-sided love…
Tae San wants to finish the home bar while Se Ra is away, which means I Su is home alone for a week so he asks Do Jin to complete the job instead.
The first day on the home bar project, Tae San meets Do Jin in front of Se Ra’s house—Tae San is delivering the materials and leaving final instructions to Do Jin. They were in luck as I Su is still out. Tae San out of the blue ask Do Jin how come he never told him who I Su’s secret crush is when he has known it for sometime. Do Jin respond to Tae San that if he had told him he wouldn’t have wavered. Tae San answered back, if he wavered what would Do Jin do. I Su arrives finding Do Jin and Tae San in front of their house.
