    Hi and welcome!
Ruka-chan has been constantly expressing her wish to read my work, so this thread is dedicated to her! :panda_cheeky_haha:
My poetry is mostly based on/inspired by people in my life; those who have truly made an impact, as well as those who are no more than a fleeting memory.

I am a writer more than a poet; so I may post prose and/or segments of my novels here, alongside the poetry. Hope you enjoy, and leave a comment if you drop by!

This first one is written for a beloved teacher of mine, who passed away from cancer. Recently, I dreamt of her, and thus, this poem came into being.

    Requiem for a Friend

How are you? Have you been well?
Is it nice where you are now?
Is everything settled? Are you happy?
Or do worries crease your brow?

Things haven't changed much here at all,
    Still the same, mundane routine.
We laugh, we fight, our troubles are
    Few and far between.

I dreamt that you were waving to me,
As though you had something to say,
I'll take this chance to tell you that you're
    Foremost in my thoughts today.

So much to say, where should I start?
    Words are struggling free.
I guess what I want to tell you most,
Is how much you mean to me.

You taught me, and you guided me,
And watched me grow with pride.
I'll always remember your loving care,
Though you're no longer by my side.

    I admire your courageous resolve,
How you battled to the very end.
But it'll always hurt my heart to know
That I've lost a precious friend.

Although so much time has passed,
It's still hard to believe you're gone.
I'll never forget your kindness and strength,
    Your brilliant legacy lives on.

So many people came to send you off,
    I'm sure you already know.
The small Church overflowed that day,
    With salty tears of woe.

My best wishes to you, wherever you are,
I hope your days are filled with ease,
Gone are the months of bitter strife,
Now you can rest in peace.

I know one day we'll meet again,
    Under a radiant, sparkling rainbow,
There in the land of milk and honey,
    Where flowers of eternity grow.

I'm sure you'll be waiting to greet me,
A dazzling smile upon your face.
I'll tell you how much I've missed you,
And hold you in a tight embrace.

Please watch over me and keep me safe,
As I wait patiently for that day.
Please visit me again in my dreams,
    Today, tomorrow, everyday.

    Thank you Bibi! :)

It's awful, isn't it? Cancer is the worst. You see them fighting and struggling with every ounce of strength, against something that they don't really have much chance of beating. It really makes you appreciate life more, whilst giving you a reality check at the same time - cherish everything you have, in case you lose it tomorrow.

I never got to see my teacher before she passed away - only found out when I received the funeral notice. It was the first funeral I ever went to, and the last I ever want to go to!

Thanks again for dropping by! :)

Aww, thank you for the lovely comments everyone! :)

Yes, cancer has touched most of us at some point, and always leaves behind a scar.
If there's one thing I'd like to see before I die, it would be a cure for cancer.

I, unlike others, have not been directly related to anyone with cancer, nor do I have the opportunity to meet with one.

This poem is a really nice one. It's poetic and meaningful at the same time. I do agree, we have to cherish our lives forever and always, while we still can...

I once saw a short documentary before where a young girl passed away to cancer. She asked, "If you were to exchange your life with me, will you? I will use your life to live up to every moment of it."

That documentary was in Chinese and so I'm just translating what she said. She passed away soon after the recording, before it could be broadcast on air... It was sad to see that. :(

    Keep it up, nuna~ :)

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. The people we love watch over us and sometimes appear in our dreams.

You are lucky AJ! I hope you will never have to deal with cancer and its consequences. That really is sad, thinking about ppl wasting their lives whilst others are begging for a chance to live. SIGH.

Omo, I'm so glad to hear that she's okay, orabeoni! My family friend also had throat cancer and had to have multiple operations. They look skin from her arm for the operations, so she has scars on her arms as well as her neck. SIGH. It's been almost a year since her last operation, so we hope she's completely well now. We just heard yesterday that she's pregnant with her fourth child haha, which is such good news! :D

I remember when she came down for her first operation, her third child was only about 3 months old. I went with her to the hospital, and had to run around the entire cancer ward carrying this kid who was so heavy, because the only way he would stop crying was if I ran around carrying him haha. Little brat! :P By the time he finally fell asleep, I could barely move lol, and my arms were lead.

Thanks for stopping by and reading! :)

Awww....very touching poem my twinnie. ❤ *hugs*
I've always admired your writing and this poem really touched me deep. :icon_sorrow:

Yeah, cancer really leaves everyone devastated and grieved. That's one unit in the hospital I avoid at any cause to
work at given the unbelievable emotions ~ grief etc that I can't seem to find words for my patients to comfort them :(
I feel sad that am not able to perform my work real well for them as I get carried away.
I admire the staff that work there to provide care and support to the patients. ^^

Btw- I miss yah mucho missie :icon_crybaby:

    TWINNIE!!! :D
Thanks for dropping by - I miss you too!! ♥
    How have you been?

Awww, do you work in a hospital, twinnie? Sometimes I wish I had chosen to become a doctor, so I can help people and find cures. SIGH. Yes, cancer ward is terrible - it requires so much courage to appear bright and encouraging everyday whilst watching your patients' condition slowly deteriorate day by day.

I will upload another poem soon! Maybe tonight! :P

This was written for the best friend I lost about 8 years ago. We haven't spoken at all for about 3-4 years now. Sometimes, I hear a bit about how he's doing; seems like he's coaching basketball and dancing and directing...
