Features Yoo Ah In who plays the role of Young Gul and who many would remember as Moon Jae Shin in Sungkyunkwan Scandal , Shin Se Kyung as Lee Ga Young also known as Soo Yi in Tree with Deep Roots. Lee Je Hoon plays the role of antagonist as Jung Jae Hyuk J Fashion director, and a man who is madly in love with Lee Ga Young. Kwon Yu Ri who plays the role of Choi An Na completes the quartet. It has been five years since Yu Ri appeared in a drama the last one was Unstoppable Marriage in 2007. She is more widely known as a member of girl group Girls Generation.
The drama goes through the life struggles of these two people as they fight to get their place in the world of fashion. A typical drama complete with all the tears and angst. The solid acting of Yoo Ah In is what saves this piece from completely going downhill. Shin Se Kyung needs to have more than three facial expressions; blank, blanker and blankest (Ok maybe that’s a bit catty). For a pivotal character she failed to engage and connect with the audience. Yu Ri’s acting was far more engaging and Lee Je Hoon was just plain pathetic and annoying in his role a Jung Jae Hyuk.
Fashion King has more than its fair share of baddies, tragic events and acts of betrayal. It is these elements which keep a viewer glued to the screen hoping for some justice and a bit of “Ha! I showed you.” The plot was predictable and the story line typical, the ending however was a departure from the usual of Kdrama.
Thank you Fashion King for reminding me how life can be truly like, so for this reason 6/10.
