Mochizuki Kotaro is a mild-mannered, unmanly high school student. One day, he visits a library and meets the mysterious librarian Himiko, who recommends to him an ancient book about a heroic general from the Sengoku period 400 years ago. Kotaro notices that he has the same name and age as the general described in the book, and he experiences a flashback... Kotaro later mentions the book to his father, who tells him that he may be the descendent of a powerful samurai. At that moment, Kotaro receives a message from his childhood friend Ai telling him that their classmate Nakamura Tsuyoshi is in trouble. He rushes to the scene but doesn't have the guts to help, until another flashback transforms him into a samurai! --Tokyograph

Review 8/10

A light hearted Rezoku drama featuring Miura Haruma as Mochizuki Kotaro from 2009 and from 1615 and Shirota Yu as Nakamura Tsuyoshi, Kotaro’s best friend. This drama has the main character possessed by a Samurai from the civil war era. This possession then changes the easy going happy go lucky Kotaro to a lean mean muscled and rather sexy fighting machine. All sorts of trouble ensue from this spiritual invasion.

Miura Haruma has featured in other dramas like Bloody Monday 1 and 2, Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oishete Kureta and many others. His other memorable roles include Hiro in Koizora the movie.

Shirota Yu on the other hand is known for his various drama roles including Kagurazaka Makoto in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana kimi for short) and Kunimitsu Tezuka in Prince of Tennis the movie.

It was a typical J drama set in a typical Japanese high school, Samurai High had all the typical elements, the ending was predictable, and the moral lesson at the end of the episode or series was also predictable. There were no “kyaaa” moments, or cliff hanging in between episodes. Despite all of this the storyline was fresh and the characters were engaging. The drama was appropriately paced with just the right amount of humour and brevity.

The series not just about eye –candy, although there was enough of that with Miura Haruma and Shirota Yu. Their ‘master-vassal/ friendship’ brought out an interesting dynamic between the two characters. With the added character of Nagasawa Ai as portrayed by Anne, the love interest of Mochizuki Kotaro from 2009 there was a hint of tension between Kotaro and Nakamura.

All in all a decent light hearted drama 8/10

The premise remind me of Yamapi's movie where he is a descendant of warrior too but in that movie he thrown back to the past.

It's only 9 episode. I'll look for it.
